Things to do in Devon this summer

There are plenty of things to explore, discover and enjoy in and around Teignmouth. To make you spend less time in the car and have more time to explore, here are our top tips for days out within 30 minutes drive of Teignmouth.


Visit Dawlish

Just a short drive from Teignmouth, Dawlish is a charming seaside town with a beautiful sandy beach and a famous railway line that runs along the coast. Take a stroll along the promenade, enjoy fish and chips, or explore the Dawlish Warren Nature Reserve.

Castle Drogo & the Teign Valley

Head inland to the picturesque Teign Valley, where you can enjoy scenic walks and hikes. The area is known for its beautiful woodlands, rivers, and wildlife. Castle Drogo, a National Trust property with stunning gardens, is also located in the Teign Valley.

Spend your day in Shaldon

Located on the opposite side of the River Teign, Shaldon is a quaint village with narrow streets and pretty cottages. Explore the Shaldon Wildlife Trust, a small zoo specializing in endangered species, or enjoy a walk along the beach and the scenic coastal paths.

Explore Parke Estate

Situated near Bovey Tracey, around a 30-minute drive from Teignmouth, the Parke Estate is a National Trust property with lovely gardens and woodland walks. The house is not open to the public, but there are plenty of things that will keep you busy. You can enjoy a stroll in the walled garden and wander along an old railway track. There is an on-site café.

Cockington Country Park

Located near Torquay, Cockington Country Park is a wonderful place to visit. It features a historic manor house, thatched cottages, and beautiful gardens. Take a leisurely stroll through the park, visit the craft studios, or enjoy a cream tea at the tearoom.

Head to Torquay and explore the charming Babbacombe Model Village. It showcases intricately crafted miniature scenes, a beautifully landscaped garden, and even a model railway.
