With golden sand and a backdrop of iron-red Devon rock cliffs, this beach is perfect for any budding beachgoers. Complete with a Cafe and Beach huts to be hired, this beach is great for swimming and splashing about, although there is no lifeguard service available even in peak season. Blackpool Sands

If sand isn’t for you, then how about the shingle beach at Blackpool Sands, which is a frequent winner of the Blue Flag Award. Even though the beach is not sandy, there are sandpits for children to build Sand Castles until their hearts are content, offering the best of both worlds. Additionally, Blackpool Sands has Paddle Boarding and Kayaking for water sports enthusiasts to make lasting memories.

Teignmouth Beach

When you feel like staying nearer then look no further than Teignmouth’s own Beach, which is just a 7-minute walk from the Cliffden Hotel. Boasting a vast expanse of beautiful sand for building sandcastles, playing beach games, or just taking in your beautiful surroundings while soaking up the glorious rays of the sun, feeling safe knowing there is a Lifeguard service in operation. Bigbury-On-Sea

When you are looking for a beach offering everything, then Bigbury-on-Sea is an ideal place to take your family for a day of sea and sand. A unique feature of Bigbury is that the water is of good quality and shallow, making it perfect for children to splash about safely, especially with Lifeguards present from May to September and a First-Aid room on site. With Rockpools to be explored and Kitesurfing and Windsurfing on offer, there is something for people of all ages to enjoy.

A further special factor of Bigbury-on-Sea is Burgh Island, which plays host to a multi-award-winning Art-deco Hotel and the Pilchard Inn Pub, which was established in 1336 and is one of England’s oldest Taverns. If this wasn’t unique enough, the island is only accessible by foot at low tide when a causeway link to the beach is revealed by the waters. When this causeway is hidden under the Sea, the only method of crossing is by hitching a ride on a third-generation hydraulic Sea Tractor, the only one of its kind in the world. While Bigbury-on-Sea is a 70 minutes drive from the Cliffden, with so many unforgettable memories to be made it’s well worth the journey.
